While many bosses in Crimson Desert are terrifying, one named “Sir Catfish” probably won’t make you freeze in fear. Still, beneath the silly nickname lurks one of the scariest foes in the game—especially if heights aren’t your thing.
The fight feels like chasing the Reed Devil: you’ll pursue him across the entire southern half of Hernand. Below you’ll learn how to track Sir Catfish down in Vellua and what rewards await once the mighty boss is defeated.
How to Start the Sir Catfish Fight
To kick off the Sir Catfish encounter, first complete the quest chain “Beyond the Silent Waves” from the Vellua Fishermen’s Guild.
Work through “Rumor-Ridden Fishing Village”, then pick up “Vellua in Peril” to reach the sleepy fishing hamlet overrun by Sir Catfish and his cultist pirates.
Once you reach the fields outside the village, you’ll spot a huge contingent of soldiers and an enormous enemy leader—Sir Catfish himself.

Approach and Sir Catfish will spot you, opening the attack.
He mostly lets his huge mob of soldiers do the work, darting in for a quick strike before slipping away.
Area-damage weapons like the Hound speed up this first phase.
In the open field Sir Catfish pulls out several tricks, including Body Slam—a move you can learn by observing it.
During phase one he relies on three core attacks:
- Hit-and-Run: he hops in for a quick strike then vanishes. Block or parry.
- Body Slam: he leaps high and crashes down on the red-marked area. Can’t be blocked.
- Whirlpool: Cliff is trapped in a swirling pool—mash the on-screen prompt to escape.
Thin the soldiers first, then focus on dodging Sir Catfish’s attacks and countering with Turning Slash (R1/RB + R2/RT). It deals heavy damage to both HP and stagger bar.

Eventually he flees, forcing a temporary cease-fire.
How to Defeat Sir Catfish
After you rescue village headman Lukas, continue the quest “Shadows in the Mist” whose objective is to defeat Sir Catfish.
Save Lukas, then immediately summon and mount your horse. Lukas will follow, letting you gallop to safety
Good news: Lukas is bug-free—he won’t get stuck (something that happened to us during testing).
Follow your map to the center of Vellua, down to the shore where a huge arena awaits—clearly built for the final showdown with Sir Catfish.
Equip the Vaporwalker boots here; they make it easy to zip around the arena and negate one of the boss’s biggest advantages.

Start the fight and punish Sir Catfish early, but be ready to dodge his combo strings—a more linear, predictable version of his earlier tricks.
Eventually he’ll summon geysers that launch you high above the arena. Use the airtime to catch your breath and survey the ground before diving back in.
Once you’re comfortable dodging geysers, lean on Focus—one of the easiest ways to avoid Sir Catfish’s attacks while recovering stamina so you can spam Turning Strikes and keep countering.
Rewards for Beating Sir Catfish
Eventually Sir Catfish falls—but it’s not his final defeat. He flees, shouting that this isn’t over, and leaves you a parting gift:
You’ll receive the Catfish Plate Helm.
