The Ancient Shield is a far more interesting option than the standard wooden shield you get from Cliff at the start of the game. If you’re after a round metal shield with a bit of lore, solid stats, and Abyss Gear already slotted in, you’ll want to know where to find it.
You can pick up the Ancient Shield in the Sanctuary of Faith, located in the Delesia region. Below is a quick walkthrough on tracking it down, plus a stat breakdown so you can decide if the hunt is worth your time.
The Ancient Shield is inside the Sanctuary of Faith, in the south-east corner of Delesia.
Look for a vine-covered tower opposite the main sanctuary building.
Use the “Reflection” skill (L1+R1+L1) and aim it at the vines to burn them away.
Once the vines are gone, head inside; you’ll find a treasure chest containing the Ancient Shield.
You may need to unlock the Witch of Humility in Demeniss before you can enter the Sanctuary of Faith.

The Ancient Shield is a sturdy mid-game option that looks better and performs better than the starter wooden shield.
Like all shields, it only has two Abyss Gear slots, but having them pre-filled is a nice bonus.
Upgrading the shield further increases its defense and attack-speed bonuses. These stats apply passively to your armor and weapons even when the shield isn’t actively equipped.
