The Lunum Mines in Pragmata are one of the most interesting locations in the game due to their unique gravity mechanics. Moving between areas with low and normal gravity, as well as mastering combat in these conditions, is an exciting part of the gameplay.
The boss of this location, the Lunamole, is just as unique. Unlike most other opponents, you learn his name even before the final battle and even meet him in advance. Moreover, you will have a chance to scare him away.
Where does the battle with the Lunamole take place?
As the final boss of the sector, the Lunamole fights you at the very end of the Lunum Mines. The game clearly indicates when you are approaching the decisive meeting by placing the entrance to the Shelter right in front of it.
There is also an information panel with additional hints right before the battle.
This battle takes place in low-gravity conditions, keep that in mind before starting.
How to scare away the Lunamole
Although you will still have to fight the Lunamole as the final boss of the sector, you will also encounter him throughout the exploration of the Lunum Mines.
In different parts of this sector, there are areas of sand under which the Lunamole is digging – this is visible by the surface movement. If you step on such sand, the Lunamole will start moving quickly towards your position. If you avoid the sand and stand only on solid platforms, it will ignore you.
This complicates navigation, so you have the opportunity to completely scare away the Lunamole. To do this, you need to lure him out of the sand, hack him, and open fire. However, unlike most enemies, the Lunamole does not have a health bar, so it may seem like your attacks are not dealing damage.
Don’t worry, you are dealing damage, and sufficient damage will force him to leave the area, as well as unlock the “Desperation Courage” achievement.
However, it’s worth considering that the Lunamole will return to any area from which you drove him away if you visit the Shelter. He will also remain in the zones where you haven’t driven him away yet. Damage is not transferred between regions. Therefore, in the long run, this may not be so useful, but it still serves as an interesting challenge and helps with collecting collectibles.
How to defeat the Lunamole
In the very end, you will still have to face the Lunamole face-to-face (or rather, face-to-maw) in the final battle, where you can defeat him. He will have several new moves in his arsenal, but you will be prepared for most of them if you have already encountered him in previous zones.
Here is a brief overview of all his attacks:
Here is a brief overview of all his attacks:
- Rocket rain – the boss releases a barrage of rockets that pour down on the entire arena for several seconds.
- Grab from under the ground – the boss emerges from under the ground and makes a quick dash forward to grab you.
- Jaw throw – after emerging on the surface, the boss slides across the ground, trying to grab you.
- Deployment of Molebits – after his health drops to a certain level, the boss emerges from the sand, installs several Molebits into the ground, which attack when he next appears. Molebits rush towards you in a straight line, but they can be hacked, just like rockets, to redirect them to the boss, dealing significant damage and stunning him faster.
- Jumping bite – after losing a sufficient amount of HP, the boss sometimes performs a jumping attack, describing an arc over a large part of the arena and burying his head back into the sand. Getting hit by this attack deals significant damage.
- Mouth laser – the boss rises to his full height and releases a powerful laser in a straight line through the arena. This attack has strong stunning properties, so if you get hit by it at any point, you will likely be locked in it until the end.
The battle with the Lunamole is different from other fights because the boss is hidden most of the time. Instead of a regular shootout, you will have to act tactically to quickly defeat him.
For example, dodging his attacks, especially the Grab from under the ground, and returning his Molebits to him significantly increases the chance of stunning him, opening up the opportunity for a critical shot.
Due to the boss’s enormous size, long-range weapons are best suited. So, forget about the shock gun and use weapons like the photon laser or piercing charge. A stasis net may also come in handy.
As the Lunamole’s health decreases, his hack matrix will become more complex. Code generators and sticky bombs will be effective solutions, so don’t forget to take them with you and upgrade them well.
When his health drops below half, the upper part of his body near the mouth will become vulnerable, providing you with an additional area to attack after a successful hack. However, at this point, the boss will also become more aggressive and will be able to perform several attacks at the same time.
For example, after deploying Molebits, he can use Mouth laser and Rocket rain simultaneously, forcing you to dodge three threats at the same time while trying to hack him. This is where the real difficulty of this boss lies.
After winning, you will receive another Shelter license key, as well as the opportunity to move on to the next sector.
