Once you’ve built the ranch at the “Howling Hill” camp during the “Field of Abundance” quest in Crimson Desert, the Graymane ranch manager named Ben will give you a quest called “Ben’s Request.”
To complete it, you need to catch a wild goat, bring it to the ranch, and then slaughter livestock at a special stall to learn the basics of managing this part of your base camp. However, the “slaughter livestock” step can be confusing, since Ben doesn’t clearly explain how to do it.
How to slaughter livestock for Ben’s Request
To slaughter livestock for the “Ben’s Request” quest in Crimson Desert, follow these steps:
- Capture a goat, cow, or pig and lead the animal to the ranch at the “Howling Hill” camp.
- Register the animal at the ranch by walking it through the far-right stall.

After that, talk to Ben and select the “Slaughter livestock” option in the dialogue. This is the only correct way to complete the task. Don’t try to kill the animal yourself or use the butchering stall—it won’t work.
Speak to Ben once the slaughter is done, and the “Ben’s Request” quest will be complete. You’ll receive butchered animal parts, camp supplies, +50 trust with Ben, +50 Graymane contribution points, and +3 extra inventory slots.
You can only slaughter large animals like goats or cows. Small animals—such as the chick you can buy from Ben—aren’t eligible.
If the goat you registered at the ranch in the first part of the quest is still there, you can slaughter it too. Just keep in mind the ranch will stay empty until you bring in new livestock.

The easiest way is to catch wild goats grazing in the open field southeast of the “Howling Hill” camp, just above the “Dragon’s Stone Chamber” puzzle pit.
Fast-travel to the Howling Hill Abyss Nexus, then head to the marked spot on the map and you’ll find a large herd of goats and kids you can capture. They’re all wild, so catching them isn’t considered theft in Crimson Desert, unlike livestock found near human settlements.
Once you’ve caught a goat, whistle to call your horse and ride it back to the “Howling Hill” ranch for registration and slaughter.
If you’d rather steal livestock from settlements, you’ll need a Mask. You can get one by completing the Jeffrey capture quest, looting bandits, or buying from the black-alley trader southeast of Hernand.
