In Palia, be prepared to do a lot of walking, as the maps are quite large and traveling between locations can be time-consuming. However, this all changes once you get your hands on a horse. So, how do you acquire your very own noble steed?

We’ll guide you through the process of getting your first horse and what you need to do to add more beautiful ponies to your collection. Whether you’re looking for a pure-bred horse or a mystical fire horse that resembles a phoenix, we’ve got you covered.

Unlocking Horses

Once you’ve reached the Royal Highlands, follow the path from the Lochland dock to the Lonely Gorge. In the upper-left corner of square I6, you’ll find Hassiian standing next to a horse frozen in amber.

Use a pickaxe to free the horse, then search the surrounding area for Dawn Lily flowers to feed it. You’ll need to collect three of these golden blossoms and bring them to the horse.

As the horse eats the flowers, it will perk up, and Hassiian will offer you the chance to mount your new steed. To do this, open your inventory and select the tools menu, where you’ll find the saddle icon. From here, you can choose the new horse as your mode of transportation.

You don’t need to progress through the main storyline to unlock horses, so feel free to get your horse as soon as possible!

Riding a Horse

After that, exit the tools menu and open the tool wheel. Your horse will appear at the bottom, just like any other tool you use. When you select the horse, it will materialize from a cloud beneath you, and you’re ready to ride!

Horse movement is controlled using the standard movement keys, and the camera will follow the horse. If you find this inconvenient, you can adjust the settings. To make the horse run faster, hold down the forward movement key. Pressing the backward movement key will gradually slow it down or bring it to a stop if held.

Horses also have a stamina gauge that determines how long they can run. When stamina runs out, travel slows down. To avoid this while riding, guide the horse toward the glowing golden spheres on the road, which restore stamina and allow you to run continuously without depleting all energy.

Breeding Horses

Once you’ve unlocked horses in the Royal Highlands, you’ll find your new steed in the stable. If the stall is full, you’ll need to free up space and take the new horse from the resting area.

Horse breeding becomes available as you level up the Animal Husbandry skill, which allows you to produce different types of horses. While you can mix and match traits like with any other animal breeding, you can’t cross-breed different horse types.

For example, Dawn Lily horses can only breed with other Dawn Lily horses. You can’t cross a Dawn Lily with a Fire Phoenix or an Aquind steed.

Can You Ride the Horses You Breed?

  • Save

Yes, you can ride the horses you breed in the stable. However, for any horse other than the standard Dawn Lily, you’ll need a special license. This license must be purchased with Palia coins, which can be bought with real money. There are starter packs available to help you get started, and separate licenses are required for each horse type.

Don’t worry, though: you can ride any standard Dawn Lily horse you breed without a special license. You just need to complete Binnie’s quests in the Royal Highlands to fully unlock this capability.

Although you can’t ride Fire Phoenix or Aquind horses without a license, you can still breed them and try to get the perfect steed before deciding to purchase a license.
