When you first start building your dream island paradise in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, several buildings will be unlocked by default as part of the tutorial on building basics. However, there are other buildings ahead – but when will they be unlocked?

In this guide, we’ll go through each building in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, explain when it becomes available as your island develops, what you need to do to unlock it (if required), and what features it offers.

Each Building Serves a Unique Purpose on Your Island

  • Save

While the main goal of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is to create a series of Mii and watch them live together in a paradise of your design, without shops and buildings placed on the island, you won’t be able to make them unique or maintain their happiness.

Starting with the in-game tutorial, you’ll gradually learn about building the island and learn the basics, but additional buildings are unlocked as you complete various goals on the island. Some of them will be given to you almost immediately – these are the most important buildings for your Mii to really “live the dream” – but others, secondary ones, will require effort: they need to be unlocked by developing the island and gradually making all residents happy.

Below, we’ve dedicated a section to each building in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream to explain what it is, when it opens, and why you need it on the island.

Wishing Fountain

Perhaps the most central place on your island will be the Wishing Fountain. Initially, it’s located in the center, but it can be moved using the “Island Builder” tool after unlocking. Here, you’ll spend “Warm Fuzzies” to upgrade the island, receiving a series of rewards as you progress.

Several of your main events will also take place here, so you’ll be visiting often.

You can choose from a variety of items, such as:

  • Reward levels, such as features that make your Mii more unique, or items that can be given to Mii when leveling up.
  • Interior sets from T&C Reno Home Supply.
  • Quik Build amenities to add new decorations outside.
  • Patterns for the “Island Builder” tool to vary your paths.
  • Unlocking the Palette House to add your own designs to new items.
  • Tickets for trips to send Mii on trips around the world.

In addition, it’s worth visiting the Wishing Fountain at the beginning of each day to collect island funds accumulated overnight. Mii make daily contributions, so don’t forget to check!

Fresh Kingdom

Once you create your first Mii and ask them about the thought bubble above their head, they’ll say they’re hungry. After that, you’ll be able to place Fresh Kingdom – a local grocery store that sells a constantly expanding range of different products to feed your Mii.

Every day, there will be four special items here. It’s likely that among them will be one or two new dishes, considering that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has almost 500 unique products. When you enter the store, you’ll see a “Today’s Specials” screen, which features four items available for a limited time. The assortment is updated daily to offer something for everyone.

Food costs money, so come prepared to spend! Once you try any dish for the first time, you’ll be able to buy it again in Fresh Kingdom at any time. All items not included in “Today’s Specials” can be purchased on other tabs of the store’s menu, where there are sections for main courses, desserts, drinks, and any food you’ve manually prepared to offer your Mii a creative choice of options.

Wear & Where

After creating three Mii, you’ll unlock the Wear & Where clothing store. Here, you’ll find all the clothing items in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. In the store, you can buy:

  • Ready-made outfits, including styled sets, theatrical costumes, and more.
  • Top clothing – all sorts of styles that change with the seasons.
  • Bottom clothing: from pants and shorts to skirts and even fun things like diapers.
  • Headwear: hats, masks, ribbons, costume elements, and more.
  • Accessories – from elegant necklaces to dinosaur tails and everything in between.
  • Socks of all shapes, styles, and colors.
  • Shoes for any occasion and style.
  • Full costumes of specific shapes – such as food, vehicles, objects, and the like.
  • Your own designs created for Mii to wear around the island.

On the first tab of the store, you’ll also find “Today’s Specials”. At the top, there’s a row of ready-made outfits that can be purchased whole at a specified price. Below are individual clothing items for purchase – two options per day for each main category.

T&C Reno

The first building that requires having two pairs of friends among the four Mii on the island is T&C Reno. This is your main interior design and renovation center.

Here, you’ll find everything you need to update the interior or exterior of your Mii’s homes.

In the game, they’re called “sets” and represent styles for decorating entire rooms. You can give them to your Mii to express themselves in their personal space, just like with features, styles, phrases, and more.

While you’ll mostly unlock new sets manually through wishes at the Wishing Fountain when upgrading the island, T&C Reno also has a “Weekly Offer”. Unlike sales in the grocery store or clothing store, it’s valid for a whole week in real-time. This gives you time to accumulate money to purchase more luxurious and limited sets.

When you unlock the ability to renovate exteriors, this can also be done in T&C Reno. Currently, in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, there are no pre-made exteriors. You’ll need to unlock the ability to create your own exterior options through wishes at the Wishing Fountain and manually change the appearance of Mii homes both inside and out.

Quik Build

After building T&C Reno on your island, the game will prompt you to create five Mii. After that, the Quik Build building will be unlocked. Here, you’ll be able to unlock and purchase new items for outdoor decor to decorate the island’s appearance.

In this store, you’ll find everything: from fences to flowers, from trees to toys – and almost everything you might need when using the “Island Builder” for customization. You’ll gradually unlock new items for Quik Build’s assortment by making wishes at the Wishing Fountain as you level up. Each time you decide to add something new to the assortment, you’ll get one such item for free to start with.

Drop by anytime you need to spend money on decorative items for use in the “Island Builder”, and then create your dream island paradise with them!

Palette House

We’ve already mentioned this, but once you have six Mii on your island, you’ll get access to Palette House – a new feature in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream that uses the game’s touchscreen capabilities, allowing you to draw all sorts of items. You’ll be able to customize many things, such as:

  • Treasures that Mii can give you after mini-games or when they have dreams.
  • Clothing that will appear for sale in Wear & Where after creation.
  • Home interiors to personalize Mii’s rooms.
  • Home exteriors, changing the appearance of Mii’s homes on the island.
  • Food that can be given to Mii for tasting.

News Studio

The News Studio will be your center for all sorts of important news broadcasts about what’s happening on your island. In it, Mii will take turns leading news broadcasts, informing you about reaching new levels or unlocking important options.

To build the News Studio, you’ll need six Mii on the island, whose happiness level has been raised several times. After placing the studio, you’ll also be able to see scenes with your Mii during video events, watch fun daily news broadcasts, and more.

Rite Price

Whether it’s a series of trophies you earn for achieving goals, prizes from mini-games with Mii, mementos from dreams, or something else, the best way to sell treasures for money is to head to Rite Price, the pawnshop.

You’ll need six treasures to unlock this building in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, but once it appears, it’ll be a great way to earn more money to make your Mii happy.

Tomoria Restaurant

Another more casual spot that will let you see fun scenes with your Mii. Tomoria Restaurant is a laid-back location where you’ll occasionally see your Mii gathering for food and conversation. While it has no other purpose than to show fun scenes, like the News Studio, you’ll need to continue to raise the happiness level to unlock Tomoria Restaurant.

Market

The Market operates three times a day, and you’ll get access to it when you raise the happiness level of your Mii enough, continuing to check on them daily to ensure everyone is happy and well-cared for. This will allow you to raise the island’s level and overall Mii happiness.

The Morning, Day, and Evening Markets are a great way to get random new items: from clothing to food and treasures. In this version of the game, the Market is a truck, not a small table by the Wishing Fountain, like in the original. Market items are always sold at a discount, usually around 50%.

You can also find mystery bags that offer three random items at a fixed price of $50, regardless of what you get. Play at your own risk, but if you’re aiming to collect as many items as possible in the catalog, it’s a great way. You might even get a new food item that will then be available for regular purchase in Fresh Kingdom, so other Mii on the island can try it too.

Foto-Tomo

Wonder where your friends get all those fun posed Mii photos on the island or on various backgrounds?

It’s Foto-Tomo – a photo booth feature that you’ll unlock when you get settled on the island and raise Mii’s happiness level several times by fulfilling their wishes from thought bubbles. You’ll be able to take fun photos in pairs, groups, or even large groups.

More backgrounds will be unlocked as you gain access to new areas or features on the island. Keep an eye on the blinking “New” sign above the building to find out when something’s been added.

Treasure Shop

The “My Treasures” shop will open after you choose to create your own treasures in Palette House as one of the wishes at the Wishing Fountain when upgrading the island. Once you unlock this feature and create your first custom treasure, “My Treasures” will become available for selling your creations so you can get them as items to give to Mii.

This store not only sells your custom treasures in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream but also serves as a kind of showcase for your work. The store’s name will match how your Mii address you on the island.

MiiWheel

One of the most decorative structures in the game is the colorful MiiWheel. It’s unlocked after you significantly raise the happiness level of the island’s residents. Your Mii can ride it together during walks, it will appear in the list of places where Mii can confess their feelings to each other, it will unlock new backgrounds in Foto-Tomo, and it will also provide access to a new mini-game related to the Ferris wheel.
