In Crimson Desert, raising livestock on a ranch is a passive way to earn money, gather food, and obtain special materials like milk and wool. To get started, simply bring a male and female of the same species to your ranch. Here’s how it works.
How to Breed Livestock in Crimson Desert
Players can breed livestock by placing an adult male and female of the same species on the ranch. The ranch itself is built at the Wolf Hill camp during the faction quest “Fields of Abundance” for the Graymanes.
Each animal species has both male and female variants. Breeding is only possible once an adult pair has been registered at the ranch.
After registering a pair at the ranch, the animals will produce offspring within 5–10 in-game days, depending on the species. For example, goats breed in 5 days, while cows take longer.
The table below lists the male and female names for each species, along with where to find them.
| Livestock | Male/Female | Where to Find |
|---|---|---|
| Cows | Bull (Male) | Can be stolen from the Ravenstein Monastery region in Demenisse, in the large open field west of the letter “D” on the map. Also found at Ironwood Farm south of Demenisse and at Cattlefold Ranch north of the city. |
| Dairy Cow (Female) | Can be stolen at Macrut Ranch south of Hernand. Also found at Ironwood Farm south of Demenisse. | |
| Pigs | Boar (Male) | Can be stolen at Macrut Ranch south of Hernand. |
| Sow (Female) | Capture piglets. There’s a 50 % chance they’ll grow into a sow. | |

| Nanny Goat (Female) | Roams the open field just south of the Wolf Hill camp. | |
| Sheep | Ram (Male) | Can be stolen at Bloomwood Ranch south of Hernand. |

| Chickens | Rooster (Male) | Buy chicks from Ben and feed them. There’s a 50 % chance they’ll become roosters. |
| Hen (Female) | Buy chicks from Ben (50 % chance to become a hen) or steal an adult hen from the ranch south of Hernand. | |
| Ducks | Drake (Male) | Can be stolen in Pororin Village. Also found in rivers and other bodies of water. |

Only animals registered at the ranch will breed. To register an animal, lead it through the far-right counter at the ranch. You can view the full list of registered livestock by talking to Ben.
What to Feed Animals in Crimson Desert
Chicks, kids, calves, and other young animals will only grow into adults if you feed them enough. Place food in the trough inside the pen. Any edible item works, but some foods promote growth better than others.
Growth progress is shown by yellow bars to the left of the animal’s name in the “Ranch Management” menu with Ben. The best feed we’ve found includes apples, carrots, lentils, eggs, and other vegetables available at the grocer’s shop in Hernand.
Food is only needed for young animals to grow; adult breeding animals don’t require feeding.
