Even in its early access period, Hades 2 was full of great content, engaging gameplay, and some of the best characters. With the release of the full version and its console launch, the game has become even better, bringing numerous new features that can be enjoyed for countless hours once again. One of the systems added in the full release is the Familiar Forms system, which allows you to change the appearance of your loyal animal companions.
However, as you might have guessed, accessing this feature requires some preparatory work. Fortunately, if you’ve been playing since early access, you’ve likely already completed most of the requirements. But if this is your first playthrough, be prepared to invest a lot of time and effort to unlock this possibility, and it’s worth it when you see how cool some of these forms are!

How to Unlock Familiar Forms

Familiar Forms in Hades 2 are essentially a late-game or even post-game feature, as you’ll need to complete a fairly extensive checklist before you can access it.
The good news, however, is that most of these points will be marked off simply by playing the game, so you won’t have to stray too far from your main objective. Nevertheless, if you want to dive into this system as soon as possible, be aware: if you’re just starting out, it’ll take some time!
Requirements to Unlock Familiar Forms
Unlock all familiars:
Frog Phrynos
Cat Tola
Crow Raki
Dog Hecuba
Ferret Gali
Level up at least one familiar to the maximum level
Spend a total of at least 20 units of Witch’s Joy
Upgrade Melinoe’s Grip to at least level 30

After completing all of the above requirements, you’ll finally be able to unlock Familiar Forms, but you’ll need to take a few more steps. First, you’ll need to start a run to the SURFACE and reach the PHASSALIAN FISSURE (the second region with all the boats). Make your way through it until you meet Circe, as she’ll give you the necessary spell to unlock Familiar Forms.
If all the prerequisites are met, before choosing a gift from Circe, you’ll receive a unique dialogue line. If it’s not there, it means something is missing – you probably haven’t spent 20 units of Witch’s Joy or haven’t reached level 30 of Melinoe’s Grip. Make sure these milestones are completed and try again!
Once you receive the Familiar Forms spell from Circe, complete the current run and return to the large Cauldron at the Crossroads. Here, you’ll be able to create the spell if you have the following items:
6 units of Fate Fabric
6 units of Wool
1 unit of Parchment
Parchment can be found in the Chaos realm.
After that, simply head to the Training Grounds, approach your preferred familiar, and select the Form option (PT) to see all available forms. Of course, you’ll need certain materials to unlock these forms, but at least you’ll have the opportunity now!
