Early in your Crimson Desert adventure you’ll meet the Golden Leaf Merchants’ Guild, a once-proud outfit now rotting from corruption. After you topple its brutal leader, Hornspitter, a few bitter loyalists remain. The new chief, Shakatu, will ask you to help him sniff out the traitor.
To start the quest “The Closest Enemy” you must first finish a short chain of preliminary tasks that open after you talk to Shakatu:
- “Uneasy Shakatu”
- “Trade Manager Nogl”
- “Trade Manager Skraw”
- “Katnum, Golden Leaf Mercenary”
- “Stablehand Blick”
- “Registry Keeper Grimzl”
When those are done, return to Shakatu at the guild camp. He’ll quiz you about the members’ testimonies. Give him the right evidence in this order:
- Blick’s testimony ⇒ Stable Ledger
- Skraw’s testimony ⇒ Trade Schedule Log
- Nogl’s testimony ⇒ Tavern Ledger
- Grimzl’s testimony ⇒ Residence Permit
- Katnum’s testimony ⇒ Guard Report
Answer correctly and Shakatu will task you with arresting the traitor—Grimzl.

Ride northeast from the guild camp to a small encampment east of Unicorn Bluff and southeast of the Nass River.
You’ll catch Grimzl in the middle of a shady deal. Interrupt it and knock him off his feet. No need to beat him senseless—just put him on the ground.
Then tie him up, sling him over your horse, and haul him back to the main guild camp. Follow the road along Unicorn Hill.
Quest Rewards
Deliver the traitor and expose his treachery, and Shakatu will pay you:
- Ernand Pirate Cloak
- Random valuable item
- Ernand Contribution Points
With that, the quest chain “Smoldering Embers” and the entire Golden Leaf Merchants’ Guild storyline come to a close.
