Imagine a crossover event where Alan Wake meets Phasmophobia – a fusion of ghost hunting and a manuscript written on a caffeine high. Familiar maps transform into eerie, fairy-tale versions of themselves, filled with shadows, hidden messages, and creepy dolls that will make you think twice before exploring every nook and cranny.
Inspired by Alan Wake, this event introduces new mechanics based on Words of Power, Dark Presences, and a multi-stage doll puzzle in the lobby. Whether you’re hunting for event points, cosmetics, or trying to unravel the mystery of a whispering shadowy figure lurking in the corner of the farmer’s house, there’s plenty to keep you engaged in this crossover.
How the Alan Wake Event Works
The Alan Wake event takes place on themed versions of the regular investigation maps. While the layout remains largely familiar, each location contains unique event items, including Words of Power, Dark Presences, Dolls, and corresponding puzzles.
The event maps include: “Oh, Deer!” Diner, Cauldron Lake, Coffee World, and Elderwood Palace Lodge. You’ll find them marked on the contract voting board in the lobby, indicated by notes in the upper-right corner of the map’s Polaroid snapshot.
During investigations, you can earn event points that contribute to both personal and community progress. Event progress is only counted if the contract is played with a difficulty multiplier of at least x1.00; custom difficulties below this threshold won’t award points.

Correctly identifying a ghost rewards you with ten event points.
Discovering Words of Power grants two points each, and banishing Dark Presences gives two points per entity.
Difficulty multipliers further increase the points earned, making high-difficulty investigations the fastest way to advance in the event.
The rewards are as follows:
- Reaching the community-point goal awards you a personal ID and the “Manifestation” badge.
- Earning enough personal points unlocks the “Angel Lamp” pendant.
- Finding 68 Words of Power rewards you with the cosmetic set “Alan Wake Outfit”.
- Locating the required dolls and solving the lobby doll puzzle unlocks the cosmetic “Saga Anderson Attire”.
What Are The Dark Presences?
Dark Presences are shadowy figures that appear on the event maps. They remain completely motionless but emit a whisper that makes them easier to track in quiet areas.

To remove them, you need to take the Angel Lamp from the investigation vehicle—it’s located next to the camera monitor. When a Dark Presence is detected, hold the use button while pointing the lamp directly at the figure. After a few seconds, the light will suppress the entity, causing it to vanish in a sparkling burst of illumination.
Each map can have up to 20 Dark Presence spawn points.
How Words of Power Work
Words of Power are hidden phrases that can be detected only with the UV flashlight. While exploring a map, you’ll notice glowing yellow arrows appearing nearby when a hidden word is close. Following the arrows will eventually lead you to a spiral cluster of glowing letters hidden somewhere in the environment.
Once you find it, point the UV flashlight directly at the Word of Power. The darkness around the letters will gradually burn away until the word disappears completely.

If you’re playing with friends, each player must find their own Word of Power, as progress is not shared between players. After you uncover a word, it disappears for you but remains visible to others in the game until they uncover it themselves.
How to Solve the Doll Puzzle
Throughout the event, you can find various dolls hidden on the themed investigation maps. Some dolls are merely collectible items, while others are part of the puzzle required for the final lobby challenge.
Dolls are usually tucked away on shelves, inside tents, on tables, or in secluded corners of the map, so thorough exploration during investigations is essential. You’ll only find them on locations that belong to the event.
After gathering the dolls on the event maps, you’ll gain access to the final puzzle hidden in the game lobby. Near the central table, there’s a collection of chalk drawings, as well as the dolls used for the puzzle.
Each stage requires placing specific dolls on the matching symbols drawn in chalk. Once one phase is solved, the puzzle resets with a new arrangement.
- For the first puzzle, place the Moose doll on the Tree symbol and the Deer doll on the House symbol.
- For the second puzzle, place the Child doll on the Sun, the Father doll on the House, and the Old Man doll on the Waves.
- For the third and final puzzle, place the Child doll on the Tree, the Princess doll on the Eye, the Father doll on the Heart, and the Jester doll on the Sun.
