In Yoshi And The Mysterious Book, you’ll encounter a wide variety of creatures, most of which are brand new. This unique cast contributes to the game’s diverse gameplay, but you’ll also spot some familiar faces.
Most creatures are straightforward and limited by their nature. However, the Shy Guys are an exception – they’re intelligent and unafraid to stand up for themselves. This makes their “Discoveries” particularly interesting.
Shy Guys can be found in the “Settled Valley” chapter, and they’re among the first creatures you’ll meet. This level also offers the chance to discover most of their “Discoveries.”
In fact, you’ll rarely encounter Shy Guys in later levels due to their behavior, so you’ll need to make the most of your time with them here. While they do appear later on, their “Discoveries” are often tied to the creature whose habitat you’re exploring.

Here’s a list of all the Shy Guy “Discoveries” you can achieve. Most of them can only be found on the first level where they appear.

Try to eat a Shy Guy to see what happens.
Caught a Shy Guy
Pick up a Shy Guy that’s running away from you on their starting level.
Shy Guy hiding in the flowers
Find the Shy Guy hiding among the flowers on their starting level.
Played ball!
While holding a Shy Guy, throw him at another Shy Guy so that the latter catches him and runs away with him.
Caught many companions
Catch at least four Shy Guys on their starting level.
Shy Guy stores food here
On the starting level, give a Shy Guy a food item, such as an apple or a hot pepper, and follow him back to his base.
Found a hidden creature
There are four hidden creatures on the Shy Guys’ starting level. Finding any of them will grant you this Discovery.
Found a Smiley Flower
After the Shy Guys return to the plaza, thought bubbles will appear above their heads. Lift the one looking for the Smiley Flower and follow its directions to locate the flower and give it to him.
Shy Guy’s secret hideout!
Find the secret area by crouching and passing through a small opening at the bottom of the screen near the right edge of the level.
Found all hidden creatures!
This includes locating Crayzee Dayzee, Peckadee, Plumbrella, and Snurfboard. You can find them by following the whims of various Shy Guys. To earn the Discovery, you only need to find them, not return them to the Shy Guys.
Fulfilled a Shy Guy’s request
After the Shy Guys return to the plaza, each will have a request indicated by a symbol above their head. Find and give them the indicated item to fulfill their request.
Shy Guy hiding in the mud
Hit the mud in the Shy Guy’s hut to make the hidden one appear.
Caught all Shy Guys!
Find every Shy Guy on the level. This is required to complete the level.
Found all tokens!
Tokens are scattered throughout the level. Find them all to earn this Discovery. Many are hidden inside tree leaves or under tables in the huts. You can crouch to slip under them.
Also knows how to play music!
Locate a musical instrument high up in the level and give it to any Shy Guy so he starts playing it. This will unlock the Discovery.
They also collect Bunchabee hives!
Throw a Shy Guy into a Bunchabee hive so he picks it up.
Grabbed the pitchforks!
Pitchforks are at the top of the main house. Grab a Shy Guy and toss him onto the pitchforks to earn this Discovery.
Stuck him on the pitchforks!
Pick up the Shy Guy holding the pitchforks and drive them into an apple to pierce it.
Now you have all the “Discoveries” that can be found for Shy Guys!
