Upgrading weapons and armor is one of the core tasks in Crimson Desert. Normally this demands heaps of crafting materials, but update 1.01 introduced a special item—the Hernand Enhancement Token. It lets you instantly raise a piece of gear by one tier without spending any resources. This guide explains how to obtain and use the token.

To apply the token, travel to the city of Hernand and find the blacksmith Turnali. In the enhancement menu choose the weapon or armor piece you want to upgrade. You’ll see three options: use a duplicate item, spend materials, or consume a Hernand Enhancement Token.

Switch to the “Enhancement Tokens” tab, select the token, and click “Enhance.” Your item will climb one tier and you’ll bypass all material costs.

Keep in mind that tokens are a supplementary, not primary, upgrade system; you can still improve gear the traditional way. There are a few restrictions:

  • Each token raises an item by only one tier.
  • Tokens work only on gear below tier 4.
  • For tier-4 items and above the token option simply won’t appear in the side panel.

The token is awarded for various main and faction quests in the Hernand region. To check whether a quest grants it, open the “Journal” tab—the token, if available, is listed at the bottom of the reward window.

Because the token is tied to Hernand, the best approach is to clear the region’s main story first, then pick up side quests. At the moment no vendor sells the token, though this may change in future updates.

If you completed the relevant quests before patch 1.01 went live, the tokens will still be added to your inventory retroactively.
