Once you finish the prologue of Crimson Desert and start exploring the open world, the sheer number of icons on the mini-map—especially in large cities—can feel overwhelming. These markers don’t just point to merchants; they also lead to free loot, such as lockbox-style chests.
Near certain buildings you’ll spot a big-chest icon. Head to the location—Hernand Castle, for example—and you can solve a quick puzzle for a reward.
Fast-travel to the “Abyss Trace” waypoint inside the city. Before you start, make sure you have a mask and at least one key. From the waypoint, follow the road uphill to the castle on your left.
Go through the gate, then take the right-hand doorway into a corridor. Immediately turn into the first exit on your right to find a staircase. Climb all the way to the top to reach a secluded room that opens with a key. The lockbox is inside.
Interact with the chest and you’ll see a set of musical keys. To open it, play the correct melody by hitting the keys in the right order. You can listen to the tune by using the playback device on the right of the chest.
The melody plays every time you spin the device, so repeat it as many times as you need to memorize it. If you’d rather skip the practice, just press the keys in this order:
Top row, first key
Bottom row, fourth key
Bottom row, third key
Bottom row, fourth key
Top row, third key
Bottom row, first key
Top row, third key
After the puzzle is solved you can steal the crate while wearing your mask and receive the “Hearty Feast” recipe. Wait for the theft bar to empty, then leave the castle.
While you’re here, loot the small cabinets scattered around the room—they hold plenty of extra goodies.
