The Black Ice is a third-person psychological horror game about polar researchers in Antarctica. To survive, players must explore an abandoned complex, find ammo, and solve various puzzles while fending off monsters. In this guide, we will explain how to open all doors and lockers, where the shotgun is hidden, and provide the optimal route to survive and uncover all the secrets of the Vostok research complex.
Prologue. Near Vostok Station
After the cutscene, run straight ahead along the red buoys. Before reaching the huge iron door, turn left into a small room. On the table, pick up the Quasar Player, which can be used to listen to messages found in the future. Turn right and approach the passage in the rock. Press “E” for the character to climb to the other side.
Move straight ahead until you reach a closed building and road. Turn right and follow the wheel tracks until you reach the door with the sign “Vostok.” After the dialogue, activate the mechanism near the door and turn into the crevice on the left. Along the way, you can examine someone else’s ice ax. Move forward and climb the boxes. Near these boxes, there will be a door to “Tunnel 139.” The code can be obtained after completing the game. This room cannot be opened yet.
Enter the next room and open the door on the left. From the dead polar explorer, you can pick up a TT pistol, and nearby on the table, there are bullets. Exit the room and approach the large door on the left. Turn around and shoot the yellow box from which the wire goes to the door. After that, a cutscene will begin.
Chapter 1. Citadel
Upon entering the station, go up to the left platform and pick up the bullets on the table. Then enter the leaning building near the cliff. Inside, there is a cabinet with the code 8-1-2. This code can be found in a note at the very end of the chapter, before entering the complex. In the cabinet, there are shotgun shells, a pouch (expands the backpack by 2 slots), and a first aid kit (fully restores health).
Near this building on the pipes, there is a figurine “Beaver Photographer”. After walking a bit further, two zombies will attack you, each requiring 4-6 shots. In the game, you can do a forward roll by pressing Ctrl twice. In the open area, there is pain relief, which can be used for healing or later combined with another ingredient to enhance the effect of the medicine.
Follow the path and go through the building to bypass the red car. Move straight until you reach a wall, where there will be pistol bullets. Approach the gate and examine the mechanism to get a new quest to find the lever. To the left of the gate, there are more bullets. Nearby, there is a small room where you can save your progress and discard unnecessary items into a box. In the cabinet, there is a bandage that can be combined with pain relief to create a first aid kit.
Where to Find the Shotgun
After leaving the building, turn right into a small shaft. Reaching the end, jump down and study the note indicating how to create various bullets, and there you will also find an old lever for opening the gate. Open the cut on the right and install the lever in place. Zombies will appear along the way, breaking down the door of one of the rooms. After winning, collect bullets and the audio recording “No Funding” in the building. Move to the next gate until a cutscene begins.
You can enter the code 1-0-6-6-1-4 right away, but then you will be without a shotgun and it will be very difficult to proceed. So go through the open gate and move straight until you reach a concrete fence. A little to the left, there will be a passage and a cutscene. You will enter a new location where many blind enemies roam. If you start shooting, they will all come running to the noise, and you will waste a lot of bullets. Therefore, move crouching along the left wall.
After exiting the tunnel, pick up the gunpowder on the left and enter the adjacent room. Go through the wooden door to enter the room with saving and the MP-133 shotgun.
How to Open the Safe and Get the Code for the Complex
Exit the building and go around it. On one side, there will be a blue tarp. Look from that spot at the building and shoot the panel, then go to the other end of the building. Near the blue container, there will be stairs to the second floor. On the table, there is an audio recording “Polar-Term?”, a map with a clue, and a safe. To open it, turn right until the wheel reaches the number 10, then left to 6 and right again to 8, then press “Space”. In the safe, there will be the code for the complex, namely 1-0-6-6-1-4. In the room where the zombies attacked you, there is another note with the code for the red locker (8-1-2). Most likely, the developers will move this locker, so it’s important to know where this note is located.
On your way back, you can clear the area of zombies and safely collect all resources on the level. Approaching the complex, enter the code 1-0-6-6-1-4 and confirm the input by pressing the green button on the device. After entering the complex, go into the left room and reach the room with monitors. After the cutscene, activate the lever on the right and take the bullets from the locker. Return to the central corridor and go through the black smoke into the main room.
Chapter 2. The Abyss
