Usahana is a new Sanrio character added to the game Hello Kitty Island Adventure with the City Town DLC. As you explore the new City Town area, you’ll need to build a friendship with Usahana to unlock new opportunities and receive exciting quests.
In this guide, we’ll help you get started with befriending Usahana. We’ll cover her favorite gifts, how to unlock and create them, and the rewards for maxing out your friendship level.

What Can You Give to Usahana?

Usahana’s favorite gifts are items with the Imagination, Mochi, and Rainbow tags. When you first enter City Town, the most accessible gifts will be Colorful Caterpillars, which can be caught in any of City Town’s parks. These rainbow-colored caterpillars constantly appear in both zones, so you can run between them to stock up.
You’ll unlock gifts for 2 and 3 hearts for Usahana by simply increasing your friendship level with her. At friendship level 3, you’ll receive the quest “Brand New Menu” from Usahana, which gives you the Mochi recipe. Similarly, you’ll get the Dango recipe during the “Imagination Cafe” quest when your friendship with Usahana reaches level 6. Both of these recipes create 2-heart gifts for Usahana.
While you’ll get many other recipes later in the game that you can give to Usahana, they’ll all be 1-heart gifts. Since some of their key ingredients are harder to find than rice flour, the Mochi and Dango recipes will become your best friends in building a relationship with Usahana.
The 3-heart gift recipe, Rainbow Dango, will be unlocked when your friendship with Usahana reaches level 16. To create it, you’ll need to find Rainbow Beams.
You’ll first encounter Rainbow Beams during the “Rainbow or Bust” quest given by Cinnamoroll. Visiting City Town during this quest will trigger rain. While it’s raining, players will find Rainbow Beams scattered throughout City Town.
After completing the quest, it will occasionally rain in City Town. Players will also find a few Rainbow Beams scattered around the town every day, even on days when it doesn’t rain.

How to get: Reach friendship level 16 with Usahana.

How to get: Complete the “Tea Time” quest. Any type of boba tea, even without the boba, is considered a 1-heart gift.
How to get: Complete the “Dream Design”, “End of the Rainbow”, and “Plush Friends Piano” quests.

Usahana has two companion abilities: Imaginary Chef and Rethink. The Imaginary Chef ability gives Usahana a chance to cook twice as many items at the kitchen station as the player. For example, if the player cooked 4 boba teas with sweet apple, Usahana will cook an additional 8 of the same teas if her skill is triggered.

Having Usahana as a companion while working at the Imagination Cafe will also give you additional City Coins for completing orders.
Usahana’s Rethink ability allows her to “imagine” a reward from a mini-game, a rare flower, or an item once a day. To use this ability, players need to talk to Usahana, select the “Rethink” skill, and give her an item. This ability is unlocked when friendship with Usahana reaches level 19.
Improving your relationship with Usahana will give you much more than just unlocking her abilities. You’ll unlock new quests, get new color palettes for your avatar, and unique recipes and items. The table below lists all the rewards you’ll get for reaching all 35 levels of friendship with Usahana.
