April 10, 2026: We’ve updated this guide because Lords of the Fallen is now part of the April 2026 PlayStation Plus monthly games.

Understanding the six stats in Lords of the Fallen makes building and leveling your character far easier, since each one governs a different attribute you can focus on. However, as is typical for most Souls-style games, the names of these stats aren’t intuitively tied to what they actually do. You won’t find straightforward choices like “attack,” “defense,” “speed,” or “health” as you would in more streamlined RPGs.

At the start of the game you’ll also need to pick a character class—nine in total. Each one begins with a different playstyle in mind, and knowing what that means for your run is crucial. Below is a detailed breakdown of every stat in Lords of the Fallen and what it does.

Lords of the Fallen stats explained

Here are all the stats in Lords of the Fallen and what they do:

  • Strength — increases damage and the maximum weight of weapons you can wield.
  • Agility — boosts effectiveness with light weapons and ranged attacks.
  • Endurance — raises stamina (letting you act longer before tiring) and max equip load (so you can wear heavier gear and weapons).
  • Vitality — increases your health (HP).
  • Radiance — lets you cast stronger Radiance spells and use more powerful Radiance catalysts.
  • Inferno — lets you cast stronger Inferno spells and use more powerful Inferno catalysts.

Remember: to use Umbral gear you’ll need to raise both Radiance and Inferno, not just specialize in one school of magic.

Where Dark Souls has bonfires, Lords of the Fallen has Vestiges. Gameplay revolves around reaching checkpoints where you can lay your soul to rest. Once activated, a Vestige becomes a resting spot where you can restore health, replenish supplies, and respawn every enemy (except bosses) you’ve killed since your last rest. Here you can also access multiplayer options: summon another player for help or jump into someone else’s world to lend a hand.

The most important choice here is “Upgrade Character.” It lets you spend Vigor—a purple substance earned by killing enemies—to raise the stats listed above. Keep in mind Vigor doubles as the in-game currency for buying items from merchants, so spend it wisely. The cost of each level rises every time. If you’re stuck on a tough boss, don’t hesitate to backtrack and farm regular enemies for more Vigor. When you die you can reclaim your Vigor where you fell or by killing the enemy that absorbed it.

The best stats to raise in Lords of the Fallen depend heavily on your chosen class and build.

Overall, there are no outright bad choices. But if you’re new to Souls games and haven’t settled on a specialized build, here’s what you need to know.

If you’re struggling to stay alive, our top tip is to pump Vitality. Starting health in Lords of the Fallen is relatively low compared with other soulslikes because of the dual-life system: when you die in the world of Axiom you respawn in Umbral. Investing in Vitality is always worthwhile. Umbral is more dangerous than Axiom, and you should only slip into it during a fight when the enemy is almost finished. Lingering there powers up the enemies hunting you, so extra health lets you last longer before you’re forced in.

If your problem isn’t health but damage, invest in Strength or Agility depending on your weapon type. For newcomers, Strength is usually the safer bet since you’ll likely start with a standard melee class. Agility shines in slightly more advanced builds that rely on dodging rather than blocking.

Always match the stats you raise to the ones your weapon scales with. When inspecting a weapon you’ll see letter grades next to certain stats. For example, if you pick the “Udirangr Warwolf” class, your starter weapon has a C-grade in Strength, meaning putting points into Strength will improve its performance. When hunting for new gear, look for weapons that favor Strength accordingly.
